Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Training
In order to become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) you have to meet the following criteria to apply for registration.
- Hold a full UK or EU Driving Licence for 4 years
- Over 21 years old
- A clean driving licence is preferable, if you do have points on your licence then you would need to discuss this with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) at the time of your application to them
- Be able to read a number plate at 27.5 meters ( with spectacles if worn)
- You will also need to complete an enhanced (CRB) Criminal Records Bureau check
- ADI Qualification Process
There are three examinations that you a required to pass before you can go onto the ADI register.
* Note that on the Part 2 and Part 3 examination you only have 3 attempts at each, if you have not passed either the Part 2 or Part 3 examination by your third attempt you will have to reapply and start the processes from the beginning.
The three stages of qualifying as an ADI are:
Part 1
DSA IT Multiple Choice Theory Questions & Video Hazard Perception Test
Part 2
DSA Advanced Driving Ability Test
Part 3
DSA Test of Instructional Ability.
* Note that on the DSA Part 2 and Part 3 examination you only have 3 attempts at each, if you have not passed either the Part 2 or Part 3 examination by your third attempt you will have to reapply and start the processes from the beginning. There are no limits to the amount times you can attempt the Part 1 Examination.
